- Bafana Bafana of South Africa shocked the Pharaohs of Egypt in the Round-of-16 of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON)
- A good number of football fans and pundits all over the world predicted a victory for the North Africans right before the match kicked off
The South African men’s football team has recorded a hard fought victory over the host nation, Egypt in Africa’s most prestigious football tournament on Saturday, July 6.
The determined Bafana Bafana silenced the over 70,000 filled capacity Cairo Stadium after 90 minutes of regulation time.
Hardly could anyone believe what had happened after the centre referee blew the final whistle to end the match to the ecstasy of the South Africans but to the chagrin of the Egyptians.
A well-organised and disciplined South Africa that qualified from its group by winning just a game wiped out the hope of Egypt who topped its group by winning all three games without conceding a single goal.
Nothing else made Bafana Bafana to win, other than sheer determination. In addition, the team spirit of the Rainbow nation against the Pharaohs was amazingly high as they won 1-0.
The victory is a lesson to the so-called big football nations that there are no more minnows in African football.
Moreso, the Super Eagles should be well-prepared when they battle South Africa at the quarter final stage, because what happened against Egypt may happen again!
